Claire Byrne is an All-Ireland Award Winning Musician based in Newry, Co. Down.  She plays Uilleann Pipes, Flute and Whistle.  She has featured on numerous CDs as both a solo and session artist and she has appeared on many TV programmes for TG4, RTE and BBC as well as performances at awards ceremonies including the Gradam Ceoil Awards recognisisng achievements in Irish Traditional Music.

She has toured throughout Europe and America on many occasions and has represented organizations including the International Fund for Ireland and Irish Embassies across Europe to promote Irish music and culture.  She has performed at the Houses of Parliament in London as well as numerous festivals at home and abroad.

 

Together with her sister Ursula, she is a founding member and teacher of music at Newry School of Traditional Music, an organization set up to teach and promote Irish traditional music and culture to individuals of all ages and backgrounds in Newry City.  She holds the TTCT diploma as a recognized teacher of Traditional Irish Music.   She is a  founding member of Newry Mourne and Down Youth Traditional Orchestra which encompasses 50 young traditional and classical instrumentaists aged 12-25 years.  She is also a member of the award winning Stray Leaf Ceili Band.

Claire performs regularly as both a solo performer, in duet and trios with her sister’s Ursula and Elaine and as a member of larger musical ensembles to cater for requests from festivals, concerts, corporate events and wedding clients.
